Self-Knowledge
SEARCHER OF HEARTS,
It is a good day to me when You give me a glimpse of my true condition;
Sin is my greatest evil, but You are my greatest good; (Psalm 51:1-2)
I have a good reason to deeply hate myself,
and not to seek to praise or honor myself,
because no one wants to praise their own pile of poop. (Matthew 6:1-5)
My country, family, church,…
are all far worse off because of my sins,
because sinners bring judgment by thinking sins are not as evil as they are, or that God is not angry because of them. (Nahum 1:6)
Please keep my from looking to other human examples for guidance on how to live a godly life, and to think that I am pleasing You because I am like them, (Isaiah 29:13)
Because all good men are not actually as good as You desire them to be, all falling far short of true righteousness and holiness. (Psalms 14:3)
They’re not always consistent in righteousness, (Ecclesiastes 7:20)
they do not always follow holiness, (Hebrews 12:14)
they do not always see Your eternal good in the midst of trials and suffering.
(Romans 8:18)
Show me how to know when a thing is evil that I think is right and good,(Proverbs 14:12)
how to know when I am doing something that not inherently sin, from sinful motives,
(1 Corinthians 13:1-4)
Such as desire to be thought of highly by people or to have my children do what pleases me. (John 12:43)
Give me grace to remember how I fail You,
my lack of knowing and trusting You and Your will written down plainly in Scripture,
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
my lack of wisdom to guide others and myself,(James 3:13-18)
my lack of genuine repentance, the lack of which isolates me from You,(Psalms 7:12)
my lack of praying in the Spirit, speaking words without true love and conviction,
(Jude 20)
my lack of deep burning passion to see You glorify, and instead seeking my own desires,
my lack of joy in You and Your will, (James 1:2-3)
my lack of Love for others.
My God, my Lord, my Comforter,
Don’t let me think too lowly of You,
Never the springs of life giving grace and knowledge,
Never coming to a true knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:7)
