The Broken Heart

Valley of Vision(Banner of Truth)

O Lord,

No day has gone by that has not proved me a guilty rebel in Your sight.

Prayers have been vainly uttered out of formality from a cold heart;

Praise has been uttered out of habit and not a truly rejoicing heart;(Isaiah 29:13)

The very best of all my good deeds are nothing but filthy rags.(Isaiah 64:6)

Blessed Jesus, let me find a place of rest and safety in Your atoning wounds.(1 Peter 2:24)

Though my sins rise to heaven(Psalms 51:3) Your merits soar above them; though unrighteousness weighs my soul down to hell(1 Corinthians 6:9-11), Your righteousness seats me in heaven(Ephesians 2:6) in the presence of Your throne, all things in my flesh call for my rejection(Jeremiah 17:9), all things in You intercede for my acceptance(Hebrews 7:25) by the grace You have given in faith(Ephesians 2:8).

I appeal from the throne of perfect justice to Your throne of perfect grace.

Grant me to hear Your voice assuring me:

that by Your stripes I am healed,

that You were bruised for my iniquities,

that you have been made sin for me,(Isaiah 53:5)

that I might become righteous by You,(Isaiah 53:11)

that my grievous sins, my sins found in every aspect of my nature, all forgiven,

buried in the ocean of Your cleansing blood.(1 John 1:7)

I am guilty, yet pardoned

Lost, but saved

Wandering, but found

Sinning, but cleansed

Give me a perpetually broken heart,

keep me clinging to Your cross of salvation,

Flood me every moment with grace poured out from heaven,(Romans 5:5)

Open my whole being to the spring of divine knowledge,(Proverbs 20:12)

sparkling like crystal,

flowing clear and unpolluted

through my wilderness of life(Psalm 23)
