Man’s Great End (Valley of Vision,Michael John) Prayer

Man’s Great End

(Valley of Vision,Michael John)

There is on thing that deserves my greatest care, that calls forth my most passionate desires, that is that I may answer for the great purpose that we have been been foreknown, created, predestined, justified, and glorified(Romans 8:29).That is to glorify You(John 17:21-23)  who have nit us together in our mother’s womb(Psalms 139:13-14), and to do all the good works You have predestined for us to do for our fellow man(Ephesians 2:10).

There is absolutely no doubt in the minds of Your people, that life is not worth living if not lived for this purpose. And yet, Lord, how little is this the thought of mankind(Titus 3:3)! Most men seem to live for themselves, without much or any regard for Your glory, or for the good of others; they deeply desire and eagerly chase after the riches, honors, and pleasures of this world; as if the believe that wealth, fame, and pleasure could make their immortal souls happy(1 John 2:15-17). But how absolutely foolish is it to buy into this horrid delusion dream coming from the devil himself. How absolutely miserable and long will these sleep in the world of demons(2 Corinthians 6:14-18). For all true happiness is found in loving You and being holy as You are holy.

O may I never fall into the feelings and vanities, the sensuality and foolishness of this world(Romans 6)! It is a place of inexpressible sorrow, a vast empty nothingness(Galatians 5:16-24). Time is a moment, a vapor; all its enjoyments are like empty bubbles, or a fleeting blast of wind(James 4:14). Nothing from these can bring any true satisfaction. The end of the pleasures of this world is eternal suffering and in the pursuit of them is found a constant growing hunger and thirst; leading to anxieties, conflict, hatred, and exhaustion(Matthew 6:25-34).

My God and Savior give us grace always to keep us in covenant with You! Grace to reject the temptation to having a great name in our life time and a legacy that is not eternal(1 Corinthians 1:26-29). Grace to reject all the desires and pleasures of this demon infested world system(James 4:4-6). Help me know with no doubting that there is no true happiness, no fulfilling of Your purpose for me, apart from a life lived in and for the Son of Your love. Grant the grace of growing in the true knowledge of who You are and what You have done(Colossians 1:9-12).
